Spirit Orbs are rewarded to Link at the end of every Ancient Shrine. Link can earn Stamina Vessels by choosing them over a Heart Container after trading in four Spirit Orbs to a Goddess Statue anywhere in Hyrule. Each Stamina Vessel provides a small amount of extra Stamina, with five Vessels needed for each additional full Wheel. Link begins with one full Stamina Wheel, but he can increase the amount of Wheels he has by obtaining Stamina Vessels. I recommend buffing your stamina as much as possible, but if you're truly afraid of being killed, do what your heart tells you. If you go in the opposite direction and opt for max hearts in BOTW, you'll be stuck with just over two bars of stamina instead of the max of three. Keep in mind that 27 is still a huge number of hearts and, as long as I play responsibly, I never die anymore. Since I did that, I can only have 27 hearts instead of 30. I chose to go for max stamina in BOTW because I found myself inconvenienced by mountains far more often than by enemies.
